How to Renew or Modify Limited Registration

From 25 May 2026 educational institutions can Renew and Modify Limited Registration online using Teacher Registration Information (Professional) (TRIP).

Details of how to create and progress applications to renew or modify Limited Registration can be found in the TRIP manual which is linked from within TRIP. Employers and principals who do not have access to TRIP can learn how to gain access on our Teacher Registration Information (Professional) page. 

Paper-based Limited Registration applications will be accepted for a transitional period after 25 May 2026 but we encourage all employers to make the transition to the online system.

Apply to Renew Limited Registration

To be eligible for the renewal of a Limited Registration the details of the teaching position must remain the same. The nominated teacher must also:
•    continue to hold the skills, expertise and qualification(s) used to gain registration; and
•    be a fit and proper person to be registered; and
•    demonstrate that they have met the requirements for professional learning.

Applications to renew Limited Registration can be submitted through TRIP.

Renewal policy
If a renewal application is received at the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) at least 28 days before the registration is due to expire, the registration will continue until the TRBWA finishes processing the application, even if this happens beyond the registration expiry date. An application includes a completed application, payment and supporting documentation.

Should the application not be received 28 days or more prior to the current registration expiry then the registration will expire on the expiry date. In this case, the teacher will be unable to continue teaching after this date until renewal of the registration is granted.

Apply to modify conditions of the teaching position

Where a teacher holds Limited Registration and the employer wishes to modify the teaching subjects and/or year groups detailed on the condition applied to the Limited Registration, the employer may apply to Modify the Condition of the Limited Registration through TRIP. There is a fee associated with this application. Please see the schedule of fees.

The nominated teacher is only entitled to teach under the modified details when modification of the condition has been granted. The nominated teacher must:
•    have the required skills, expertise and/or qualification(s) for the duties of the teaching position, and 
•    meet the English language requirements for Limited Registration with respect to the position offered.
