Provisional Registration

Provisional Registration is a category suitable for recent graduates of Australian and New Zealand teacher education programs.

You may be eligible for the grant of Provisional Registration if, within the last 5 years, you were awarded a teaching qualification from an initial teacher education (ITE) program, either:

  1. accredited by an Australian regulatory authority; or
  2. accredited by the New Zealand teacher regulatory authority; or
  3. assessed and approved as an Early Childhood Teaching (ECT) qualification by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Agency (ACECQA).

Please note that to be eligible for Provisional Registration, a person must generally have successfully completed 4 years of higher education study (full time or equivalent) at the Bachelor degree-level or higher.

Graduates of these accredited/approved programs are considered by the Board to have demonstrated the Professional Standards for Teachers in Western Australian at the Graduate Level, which is one of the eligibility requirements for the grant of Provisional Registration.

All applicants for registration must also meet the fit and proper requirements.

You can complete the Application for Provisional Registration online via Teacher login.

There is a registration fee associated with applications for registration.

This fee is separate to the annual fee that all registered teachers are required to pay each year by 31 March in order to maintain their registration. Please refer to the Schedule of fees for more information.

If you currently hold teacher registration in any other Australian State or Territory or New Zealand, you may be eligible to apply for registration with the TRBWA through Mutual Recognition. Further Information is available on the Mutual Recognition page.
