State Administrative Tribunal

The Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) may refer a matter directly to the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) or on the recommendation of a disciplinary or impairment committee.

If the SAT finds that a disciplinary matter exists in relation to a registered teacher, it may order that the teacher:

  • is cautioned
  • pay a fine
  • be suspended from teaching
  • have a condition imposed on their registration
  • have their registration cancelled and be disqualified from applying for registration for a period of time.

If the teacher is unregistered, the SAT may order that the teacher is cautioned, to pay a fine or is disqualified from applying for registration for a period of time.

If the SAT finds that an impairment matter exists in relation to a teacher, it may order that the teacher:

  • be suspended from teaching
  • have a condition imposed or modified
  • undergo counselling or medical treatment
  • have their registration cancelled and be disqualified from applying for registration for a period of time.

A teacher with current or previous registration, an applicant for registration or the employer of a teacher who holds or held limited registration may apply to the SAT for a review of an adverse decision in certain circumstances (see section 85 of the Teacher Registration Act 2012).
