To be eligible for the grant of Full Registration you must:

  • hold a teaching qualification from an accredited initial teacher education program or a teaching qualification recognised by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) as equivalent, or alternatively have a teaching qualification and teaching experience that the Board considers is sufficient to enable the person to hold registration as a teacher
  • be proficient to the prescribed standard in English, both oral and written
  • meet the Professional Standards for Teachers in Western Australia at the Proficient Career Stage in either your current or recent teaching practice in Australia or New Zealand.
  • be a fit and proper person to be a registered teacher
  • have taught in one or more educational institutions in Western Australia or other Australian or New Zealand schools within the last 5 years. Applicants for Full Registration who have not taught in Australia or New Zealand within the past 5 years are considered by the Board to be unable to fully meet the Professional Standards at the Proficient Career Stage.

If you currently hold teacher registration in any other Australian State or Territory or New Zealand, you may be eligible to apply for registration with the TRBWA through Mutual Recognition. Further Information is available on the Mutual Recognition page.
