Fees

The fees associated with teacher registration are collected in accordance with the Teacher Registration Act 2012. The Schedule of Fees is prescribed in the Teacher Registration (General) Regulations 2012 and is reviewed from time to time in accordance with the State Government's general review of fees and charges.

TRBWA fees increased on 1 July 2023 to accommodate the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The fees are reflected in the Schedule of Fees.

Payment of fees

Payments made via TRBWA Online payments and Teacher Login on the TRBWA website are immediate. Any payments made via ezybillpay, BPAY, net banking or cheque can take up to 72 hours to be processed. Payments can only be accepted in Australian dollars ($AUD).

Registration fee – new applicants

A non-refundable application fee is payable at the time of submitting an application.

For an applicant holding a qualification from an accredited initial teacher education program or an equivalent conferred in Australia or New Zealand, the registration fee is either $140 (Provisional Registration) or $178 (Full Registration).

The fee for Mutual Recognition is $140.

For applicants holding teaching qualifications conferred in a country other than Australia or New Zealand, the registration fee is $473 (Provisional Registration) or $508 (Full Registration).

Renewal of registration fee

A fee of $56 is payable with an application for the renewal of registration in the same registration category. This fee is not refundable regardless of the success or otherwise of the application.

Annual fee

An Annual fee, currently $95, is required to be paid by all registered teachers by the end of March each year. This fee covers the period from 1 April of the current year to 31 March of the following year.

All registered teachers are provided with an annual fee invoice through Teacher Login every February for the full annual fee payment due for the next year of registration.

Teachers who are initially granted registration on any date between 1 April to 30 September inclusive are invoiced $95  for the full year of registration.

If a teacher is initially granted registration on any date between 1 October and 31 March inclusive, they will be invoiced $47 for the last half year of registration up to 31 March. For example, if registration is granted on 2 March, an annual fee of $47 will apply to cover the period of registration from 2 March to 31 March of that year.

The teacher will also be required to pay the $95 annual fee for the next full year of registration.

It is important to note that there are separate and distinct obligations to pay the annual fee and to renew registration. Registered teachers are required to pay an annual fee for their teacher registration every year. A renewal of registration fee, currently $56, is only required to be paid when the teacher makes an application to renew their registration before its expiry.

Of course, in some circumstances a teacher's renewal of registration may coincide with the payment of annual fee. The TRBWA will send separate notifications to remind teachers of the need to meet their obligations.

Please refer to What do I get for my fees? for information on how the annual fee is used by the TRBWA.

Late payment processing fee

A late payment processing fee of $59 is charged for annual fee payments not made by 31 March but made during April.

If all outstanding fees are not paid by the end of April, the TRBWA will take steps to cancel the teacher's registration.

Qualification advice

Before making an application, you can apply to the TRBWA (fee $330) for advice as to whether your qualification(s) meet the requirements for teacher registration.

Change of category

A fee of $56 applies to applications to change category (with the exception of changes of category to Non-Practising Registration).

Limited Registration

The registration fee for Limited Registration is $235, and must be paid by the employer. There is no fee for the Limited Registration of nominees who are participants in an approved teacher exchange programme.

Where additional educational institutions apply for Limited Registration for the same teacher within 12 months of the initial Limited Registration application, there will be no fee applied.

There is a fee of $56 for educational institutions to apply to modify a condition of registration on an existing Limited Registration.

Other fees

The TRBWA charges for a small number of other related services as listed in the Schedule of Fees.
